Norway is probably the country in the world where the maritime energy transition is the most advanced, not just in theory, but in practice. The country aims to reduce emissions from domestic shipping by at least 50% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels, through concrete requirements applied to ferry tenders, high-speed vessels, and cruise ship zones. Norwegian fjords were among the first in the world to welcome zero-emission vessels, making Norway a reflection of what Energy Observer has stood for since its creation.
This central position represents a tremendous opportunity for our editorial and documentary work on carbon capture, with a particular focus on technological carbon capture and storage through the Mongstad Technology Centre and the Northern Lights project. We would especially like to highlight the latter, notably resulting from the joint efforts of the French group TotalEnergies and the Norwegian State. We would like to organize a filming session with them during our visit and would appreciate your support in helping convince this consortium to open its doors to us as part of our documentary productions.
This stopover will be an opportunity to organize visits, share the experiments carried out on EO1, present technologies tested under real operating conditions, and foster dialogue around concrete solutions to accelerate decarbonization, particularly in the maritime sector.
