Professional deep-sea scuba-diver, “Nouvel Explorateur” (New explorer) and filmmaker, Jérôme Delafosse is the Energy Observer’s leader of expedition. As a real passionate about sea universe, he spent his life contemplating the most wonderful and most terribles realities of the sea… With Energy Observer, it’s time to act.
Everything started in Saint-Malo for Jérôme. Hours spent sailing, diving, and drawing inspiration from the great adventurers, explorers, and privateers. At twelve years old, he discovered the documentaries of Cousteau’s team… it was a revelation. When he grew up, he would explore the oceans like his heroes.
Professional deep-sea scuba-diver, photojournalist and travel photographer, documentary producer and worldwide published author, Jerôme was part of the archeological expedition to explore Cleopatra’s sunken palace in Alexandria, and he dives amongst the great white sharks in South Africa, or even 1000m under the sea to film the abyss.
In 2006, he became one of the iconic figures of Les Nouveaux Explorateurs, on Canal+ and Travel Channel, a show for which he covered oceans and legendary rivers, and met up with the water people in order to introduce different cultures and raise public awareness around environmental matters.
After making his childhood dream come true, Jérôme wants to focus on pro- actively raising awareness around the real need to protect the ocean’s natural and human heritage. Today, he dedicates himself exclusively to this task, first with Sharks of Wrath, a special prime time documentary on the safeguard of sharks, broadcasted on Canal+.
Then in 2015, he mets Victorien and the Energy Observer’s project. They both decide to throw themselves in Energy Observer’s adventure, the first hydrogen vessel around the world and imagine the « Odyssey for the future ». A unique expedition, lasting for 6 years, 50 countries and 101 stopovers to meet all those involved in building tomorrow’s world.
Victorien, the Captain, took charge of the vessel construction and the partnerships search and Jérôme, leader of the expedition, the audiovisual content.
Thanks to the Canal+ Group and the Planète+ channel, Jérôme is currently producing, along with an embedded production crew, the first documentary series, counting 8 episodes, on this unbelievable adventure and its crew. These innovative contents, such as the augmented reality and the 360 immersive content, will be diplayed inside the Energy Observer’s village.
