Upon arrival on the island in Vendée, our crew welcomed on board Bruno Noury, the Mayor of Île d’Yeu. The friendly encounter included a presentation of the catamaran and the issues it highlights.

“This is a highly meaningful visit for an island working in favour of energy transition.”

      A first for the crew

But that was not all. This stopover will go down in Energy Observer history as it marked the very first series of tests of the traction kite by Yves Parlier, the founder of the Beyond the Sea start-up, whose aim is to reduce energy consumption in world sea transport. As a result, off the coast, between Saint Nazaire and Île d’Yeu, Energy Observer was pulled by two wings, measuring 16m2 and 35m2. In the long term, sailing with a traction kite will help increase the boat’s speed, reduce its energy consumption and convert the electric engines into hydrogenerators.
