From their worksite in Saint-Malo to the summits of the island of El Hierro, the Energy Observer team have filmed their adventure. The new documentary series, “Energy Observer, the Odyssey for the Future,” will cover the nearly 10,000 nautical miles traveled, 14 countries visited, and over 30 stopovers made. 8 episodes will be broadcast on Planete+ starting the 10th of October. The first episode was shown to the press and partners during two advance screenings in Paris.
One and a half years later, the vessel has completed a tour of both the entirety of France and the Mediterranean, with zero greenhouse gas emissions or microparticles, to test out cutting-edge technologies and to sail in search of concrete solutions for saving the planet.
This incredible adventure has been captured by Jérôme Delafosse, Expedition leader and director of the documentaries: “We had dreamed about it a thousand times in the middle of winter inside our worksite in Saint-Malo. Since then, we have roamed the Atlantic and the Mediterranean from north to south, from Gibraltar to the Middle East, experienced unforgettable moments, from Tel Aviv to Saint Mark’s Square in Venice. It’s a human adventure during which we’ve been able to measure the impact of mankind on the environment, but to also meet those men and women, who are often unknown, who have made the decision to dedicate their lives to going against the grain, without compromising. “
The 21st century Calypso and flagship of the 30th anniversary of Planète+
Between Jérôme Delafosse and the group Canal+ , the story began in 2006. From New Explorers to Energy Observer and passing via Angry Sharks, the channel has always remained faithful to the adventures, which have become more and more environmentally-invested, of the Saint-Malo-born deep-sea diver.
The launch of the Odyssey for the Future represents an achievement, which is showcased as part of the channel Planète+’s 30th anniversary celebration. It’s the first channel in France and Europe which is entirely dedicated to documentaries of this kind.
“We’re delighted to share our pride and joy with you and for the Canal+ group to air the documentary series “Energy Observer,” which will be broadcast on the PLANETE+ channel on October 10th to coincide with the channel’s 30th year anniversary. The series will symbolize the values of the group, and will be on the PLANETE+ channel specifically because it’s a series that propels us into a future full of promises for our planet. It’s our role and even our responsibility to society to inspire people to build a better world, where the solutions are sustainable, where we protect biodiversity, where the future is desirable, with more equality and solidarity...” Jean-Marc Juramie, EVP paid TV content for CANAL+.
An advance screening at the Ministry of Ecological Transition
The 11st of September, at the Ministry for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition of France, Victorien Erussard, Jérôme Delafosse and the whole team presented the Odyssey for the Future. In attendance were Minister of Ecology François de Rugy and Secretary of State Brune Poirson, both of whom had come to acknowledge the much-needed hope provided by the team.
“It’s a way of doing things, an initiative, that we can use as inspiration and generalize,” confirmed the minister, “It allows to exchange in order to continually bring about ecological transformations, at all levels, wherever we may be, citizens or politicians. It’s by teaching everyone that we will succeed. “
A message confirmed by Brune Poirson, deputy minister. “What we need, precisely, is mobilization. We must continue to encourage this ecological dynamic and expectation that has become societal. “
For Energy Observer, this launch was an occasion to reunite and thank all the partners and the team members who supported the project since its beginnings, not without emotion: “Thanks to our group of partners and our team, we have realised our dream,” emphasised Victorien Erussard, the founder and captain. It is truly a joy to rack up miles on this vessel that doesn’t pollute, makes no noise, emits no fine particles. We were right about the energy-based design and I don’t see how we could go back. Together we have opened a new maritime pathway, and I am proud to share it with you.”
The 10th of October on Planète +, the first two episodes of “Energy Observer: Odyssey for the Future” followed by 2 episodes every Wednesday.
