Victorien Erussard was at the United Nations headquarters (UN) in New York, from 16th to 18th of July. Deputy Secretary Brune Poirson invited him to participate in the French delegation to the High-Level Political Forum as France’s high ambassador for the Sustainable Development Goals.
“We will not achieve the challenge of the ecological transition without the civil society. By being the largest delegation at the High-Level Political Forum, France shows that’s its up for it.” Brune Poirson, Minister of State, attached to the Ministre d’État, Minister for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition.
Energy Observer’s captain and founder presented “Solutions,” a web series spotlighting the pioneers the crew has met during their Odyssey for the Future aboard Energy Observer.
Energy Observer is an original ambassador that differs from most of the “ambassador” instruments created by the member states in the framework of the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. Thus, where other countries set up stakeholder networks, Energy Observer is presenting concrete solutions filmed directly in the field.
“Many countries have set up ‘ambassador’ mechanisms to popularize the sustainable development goals“, notes Laurence Monnoyer-Smith, interministerial delegate for sustainable development. “The one France proposes, presented by Victorian Erussard, is quite unique, as much in its mode of operation as in its objectives and mission, and especially by the quality of its online platform. “
During this important annual meeting for the planet, Victorien Erussard presented a sneak preview of “Energy Observer SOLUTIONS“, a web series that shows a world in transition. The platform looks indeed like a series of video meetings with committed trailblazers, who are implementing concrete actions adapted to their local context.
An original project
The project’s goal, as well as the quality of the films presented, greatly impressed the forum’s participants. “Kimmo Tiilikainen, Finnish Minister of the Environment, and Teresa Ribera, his Spanish counterpart, were impressed by the quality of the Energy Observer project. They both expressed a desire to tour the vessel. ” affirms Laurence Monnoyer-Smith.
This project also seduced parliamentarians, business leaders, and heads of NGOs, members of the French delegation who discovered it at a reception organized at the consulate by Deputy Secretary Brune Poirson, with the participation of the French ambassador to the UN.
An Odyssey for a cleaner world
Victorien Erussard was also invited to present Energy Observer’s odyssey at a side event to the high-level political forum dedicated to the ways states are “mobilizing civil society”, along with representatives of Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Austria, and Thailand. Each country has a different mobilization structure in place. There again, France’s choice stood out in peoples’ minds.
“We presented a teaser for the web series that will officially launch on 25 September, the anniversary of the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, explains Victorien Erussard. “It’s the first time I’ve attended this type of event, in such an emblematic place. I was able to measure the complexity of such big meetings. I’m proud that Energy Observer has its role to play in the mobilization of civil society. ”
The Odyssey around the world continues, with a stopover this Thursday 19, in Bari, Italy. Energy Observer will continue its voyage to meet the people who are innovating for a cleaner future.
